I was raped in New York City during my final week of college in 2013. This moment marked a rupture in my childhood freedom and forced the beginning of my autonomy as an adult.
I had to make a decision, a decision that we force every survivor of assault to make: whether or not to engage with the Justice system. That decision has shaped the person I have become. From the music I write to the stories I choose to tell, creating She Said has been a throughline in my life and a container for confronting and surviving trauma in America. It is not in spite of this trauma and heartbreak, but because of it that I want to tell this story.
Lily Ali-Oshatz tells a powerful story in music and words that will hit raw nerves, reveal unexpected inequities while softening the blow in childlike tears.
